King Lear Oil on canvas 36" X 48"
This is an oldy but a goody. This is a portrait of Laurence Oliver as he played the title role in Shakespear's "King Lear". With a face like that how can you not be wise?
My apologies for the glare on the upper left. I didn't shoot this under the best lighting conditions.

Fantastic skin tones. How DO you do it?? And how many more "oldies but goodies" do you have lying around?
Hmm... skin tones. I guess I just don't think about it that way. I just try to see the color of what I am painting and try to mix paint to match it.
And considering that I am 44, I have a whole bunch of oldies. I'm just not sure how many of them are goodies. :-)

My wife was a professional actress when we were dating. I wanted to show her I was serious about her so I painted this for her birthday. Oliver was one of her favorite actors.
I guess it worked. She married me. :-)
