Still working on this piece. Tonight I did a little color study in my sketch book. It's funny how the more you draw a subject, the more you get to know it. I am hoping my sketches of this scene will prepare me to paint it properly. So that when I apply a brush full of oil paint to the canvas it will be like old friends saying hello.

Like this work.
Chuck, this looks GREAT! YOur method is working so very well for you.
Excitement!! You should have been an art professor, you know. Can't wait to see what happens next!
Good grief ... if I did this little color "sketch" I'd be calling it done! This is really great -- you and Laura make it all look so effortless. (sigh)
This has the immediacy and freshness that only working on location can bring!! It would be neat to see the sketch framed and displayed alongside the completed painting. Looking forward to watching this progress.

Can anyone tell me what a colour study is? (I have to do a full page colour study on a portrait using paint or colour pencils.)
thankyou
can anyone who knows just leave a comment here plz (i asked the colour study question)
Hey there,
A color study is a very simplified, usually smaller, version of a final painting. Consider it a sketch that helps you figure out what colors to mix to achieve the color harmony you're after.
