Illustration Friday, Aging

Mom at her 50th Wedding anniversary luncheon

This week's IF (Illustration Friday) topic is Aging. I thought about lots of ways to participate. I've been feeling rather aged lately myself. I thought maybe a self portrait. I just grew a go-tee. It came in almost all gray.

But I have been thinking about my Mom a lot lately too. She passed away a few years ago and it occurred to me I had done only one sketch of here my whole life (so far). It was from a picture I took of her at her 50th wedding anniversary celebration to my father. I wish I had done so much more.

So here's the lesson on aging: Draw pictures of the ones you love now. You never know when they may not be available to model.

Great drawing -- love how the dynamic lines convey her movement. Nothing about this portrait is static -- awesome!

Beautiful!
I'll bet your mom was so proud of your artistic talent. I know my mother has always encouraged me.
Your lovely portrait of her shows so much personality.

You nailed that one Carolyn. My mother supported my artistic interests since I was a child. I come from a large family and she somehow convinced my father I should have art lessons when I was nine. She found the money.

She gave me my first drawing table when I was 16 years old for Christmas. I still have it today. I put a glass top on it and use it as my oil palette.

Well I really do not have anything NEW to add to the stream. I really like your style. Excellent work ! I also ventured into your blog and noticed that picture your son drew. How old? I'm doing I.F. with my 2 kids (1&3) - kind of role model - more for fun than anything. I'm looking forward to seeing more form you.

Well, buddy, now it's my turn. This drawing brought tears to my eyes. I remember what you said in response to my drawing of my mother in the hospital, so I have an inkling of the feelings you brought to bear here. The piece itself shows them.
Beautiful and moving.

I really like your style- it is evident in the other drawings you've done as well. I am curious how long it took to crete this drawing?

Hey there ROR. My thought exactly. Followed by whipped lime jello with custard sauce on top.

Puhiava,
This drawing took about an hour.

That is a stellar piece of work, Chuck. You should be proud of it! I love the smattering of thick dark lines that hold it all together. I took a similar route this week, but went much younger. I heed your words: draw 'em while you can.

Good job.

Agree with Jeope and yourself .. drew Mum. Yours is wonderful and you are very lucky to have the talent where her personality and character shines from pencil lines :)
