The next installment from the beach

Three Shells

I did this on our first rainy day at the beach. I put the shells on a piece of water color paper by the window. The soft light of the drizzly day made for a very nice effect.

I just love the clam (and them all). The detail is is wonderful. did you mix these colors or are they straight from the tube/pan?

Hey Dude!
I rarely use colors straight from the tube/pan. I use a plastic pallet for watercolor. I use A LOT of water and add the color to it on the pallet. Then I mix it with my brush and apply it to the paper.

Ah, yes, the lure of molluscs, sand, crustaceans, the often present Pisaster ocraceous, and a spot or two of ultramarine blue. Looks like you had a grand time and marvelous few days. I love your dog sketches too! Keep'em coming, Chuck!

What fascinating shells! This is a great study Chuck. I really admire the way you use watercolour. Well done.

I love these - they're clearly shells, and yet they are abstracted. The colours are delicate... really nice.
