For what it's worth....

There is an old Air Force saying called "screw the pouch". This phrase was applied to a pilot who augered their aircraft into the ground or otherwise lost their aircraft. Their survival was not mandatory.

I thought the phrase might be fitting on this occasion since I was painting my dog and I am ,in fact, alive.

The color got away from me completely. I used a Pilot G5 gel pen to do the underdrawing. I LOVE this pen and the way it flows ink onto the paper. What I didn't realize was that it isn't waterproof. So when I started to add the paint I ended up with dark gobs of value instead of the precise area of color that I was hoping for.

I thought that fixative would solve the problem, but I am totally out. Can't believe that either. I'm NEVER short on supplies. Just goes to show you how much corporate life has distracted me lately.

Oh well, lessons learned.

Art is a funny thing.

If you hadn't mentioned the colour effect was unintended I would have thought...interesting colour technique.

My art teacher used to tell me I shouldn't worry about the realism of my subject so much. I hear his comment in my head again when I look at your dog picture.

Though of course, maybe it doesn't really capture the spirit of YOUR particular dog. Thast could be. :)

I know Wally. I wish I was more prolific too. I also wish I knew what that meant. But if it means I should paint more often I totaly concur. :-D

Do you think it's OK to post old sruff?

Your 'mistake' turned out really well! It wasn't a problem it was a discovery. Nice drawing and great colour version.

Note to Chuck - 'course its alright!

I love the bleedy look (especially since I do this on purpose). This is great painting exactly the way it is. Much more expression I think.

Welcome back to the club. You're too talented not to be drawing every day.

Thanks Amanda. I just wish the drawings paid the bills, you know? But I'm trying to get back to it.

Thanks for your ongoing support.

glad that you're back! such a sleepy lovable expression you've sketched, she looks so sweet! the watercolor looks fine to me too and when you're too busy I'm all for old stuff (dragon!)

Aw -- this is great. I love the way her face is all smooched up, and the ink smudges work for this one, too. I'll be drawing my dog more often, now that I've started!
