Did I kill it?
I took the advice of Mr. Torta and Doc Research and went back into this a bit. The problem was I did it right after I woke up, and without my usual morning coffee. So I may have made that oh-so-easy-to-make mistake of over working a water color. But that's OK, I can do another one. I may continue on this Sargent study track for a bit. I learn so much from studying his work.

Hey man, thanks for the interest! I agree I lost a bit of the spontaneity, but I learned something and that's the most important thing.
And thanks for catching the thing about the head. I was really trying to pay attention to that.
I agree with Wally: studies are studies!!! and also, you have a wonderful ability to make your painted portraits so dimensional... again as Wally says, the forward lean is captured beautifully.
this is crazy! i was catching up on both of your blogs at the same time:

I know Jenny. It seems like we have to decide which platform to use. But Wally says we have to use both. And I always do what he says. :-)
Lovely picture, also great use of watercolour. I find it so difficult to use, great work.
